Across the Years
I watch as starlight’s gleam across the years, recalls to me our dream across the years.
We walked together, all those years ago: the perfect loving team, across the years.
That last time, when the dew was on the grass, your teardrops were our theme, across the years.
If I could but reverse those wheeling stars; turn back that pain extreme across the years.
They say time heals all wounds: the time they mock now forms an endless seam, across the years.
The salty drops that trickle down your cheeks, reflect back each moonbeam, across the years.
How bitter is my woe, how deep the hurt, that forms our future’s scheme across the years.
Easy it is to swallow now, my pride, and feel your warm esteem, across the years.
This poem is a ghazal, and the rhyming scheme is required by this poetry form. This poem is written as an entry to the "Poetry In Rhyme and Rhythm Contest". There is also a option that the poet's name may appear in the last couplet of the poem. My name is Easy. If one wishes to see the requirements of a ghazal, one may go to the above named contest, which can be reached at Khalish's port.
This ghazal is intended to have a 10 sylable count, and is written in aa, ba, ca, da, ea, fa, ga, ha format.
This poetry form is from old Persia, now Iran, and is practiced principally in Iran, Pakistan and India, as their languages are particularly well adapted to this art form.
Speaking now, after the fact, this poem won first place in the above listed contest. From: The Beckoning Hand Copyright © 2006 James Walter Orr | |
